National and international travel is made easy to Highland residents because Highland is located only 25 miles from Ontario International Airport and is in proximity to Los Angeles International Airport. Local businesses love the fact that Highland’s prime location puts it within 90 minutes of a vast marketplace of 14 million consumers or about 50% of the California marketplace. Residents of Highland can also take full advantage of Hollywood, the World Famous San Diego Zoo, Disneyland and all of the other fun in the sun that Southern California has to offer.

However, Highland and San Bernardino County offer a great family atmosphere and many attractions of their own. There are great parks such as the Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave Narrows that offer everything that a nature lover could want. Fans of culture and the arts enjoy the Inland Empire Symphony or one of the great museums. The other attractions around Highland range from minor league baseball to great shopping to Nextel Cup racing at the California Speedway.

Highland’s original town site was founded in 1891, and the community grew as an important contributor to the citrus industry. Many of the same buildings constructed during the town’s early growth era are still in use, proof positive of the sense of community and tradition in modern-day Highland. The city was officially incorporated in 1987 and in the short time since the population has grown by over a third. More new residents are arriving each day, a fact which attests to the city’s ongoing efforts to protect and enhance the quality of life by promoting planned, reasonable growth.
